FAQ

What law applies to drones that fly over private property?

Recently, the FAA released new rules for commercial drone operations. These rules apply only to UAVs weighing less than 55 pounds and flying below 400 feet above ground level. Commercial operators must register with the FAA and obtain a license from the agency. They must also obtain permission from local authorities if they plan to operate in restricted areas, such as airports.

Where can a drone be purchased?

There are many types of drones available online. Some people prefer to buy drones online via Amazon, eBay and Walmart. Others opt to purchase their drones direct from manufacturers.

What is the difference in a quadcopter from a hexacopter.

A quadcopter, a four-rotor helicopter, flies just like a helicopter. It has four rotors which rotate independently. The hexacopter can be described as a quadcopter but has six rotors, instead of the usual four. Hexacopters are stabler and more maneuverable than quadcopters.

Is it safe to fly a drone while driving?

Flying a drone while driving is dangerous because you could crash into another vehicle or object. You may also run into pedestrians and other animals. Your car could be damaged if it hits power lines or trees.

Is it possible to fly a drone at high altitudes without a license?

The FAA has no limit on how high you can fly a drone. They do require that you register your unmanned airplane system (UAS), which includes registration number, model number, weight, size and manufacturer's names, as well as other information.

Can my drone be flown around my neighbourhood?

Yes! These are called UAVs, or unmanned aerial vehicles. There are many kinds of drones today. They range from small quadcopters, to large fixed-wing planes. The FAA recently updated its rules regarding commercial UAV use. You can now legally fly them to business purposes. But, it is important to note that UAVs being flown near airports can interfere with air traffic control systems. Before you operate one, you need permission from local authorities.

How To

Repairing a damaged motor on a drone

The first step toward repairing a damaged motor is to identify what part of the motor is broken. This is easiest to do by removing the propeller from its shaft. Next, remove all wires from the motor shaft and inspect the internal workings. If you see something wrong, then you know what part of the motor you have to fix.

If the motor is in good condition, you shouldn't worry. But if it looks like one of the images below, you will need to replace parts before you can fly again.

Consider a motor that has become bent and won't turn. The motor will need to be bent back into its original shape. To hold the engine, use a pair pliers or a vice grip. Once you've done this, make sure to check the motor thoroughly for signs of wear.

Once you're satisfied that everything's ok, put the propeller back onto the motor shaft and reattach the wires. Your drone is now ready to fly!
